Judge Matthew D’Emic has presided over New York State’s first mental health court since it was established;ished in 2002 and now he is championing for more understanding in the state’s handling of mental health cases.
In March 2020 the National Judicial Task Force to Examine State Courts’Response to Mental Illness was formed. In early 2023 New York established it’s own state task force for the same purpose and Judge D’Emic was tabbed as its chair.
