The recent surge of over 20,000 migrants over the summer has added to the already backlogged 180,000 immigration cases awaiting the New York Immigration Court.
Only 88 judges are handling the long line of cases which is creating months and months of waiting for the asylum seekers and causing “chaos and confusion” according to Jodi Ziesemer, director of New York Legal Assistance Group’s immigrant protection unit.
