With more and more food banks closing the access to food for immigrants is a growing concern. During the pandemic, in immigrant communities in New York, low income immigrants turned to food pantries to provide food for their tables.
There are 500 food pantries that receive funding from NYC’s Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) but those that don’t make that list rely on grants, donations and volunteers.
The closing of food banks is straining and taxing the ones that are hanging on.
