Tenants facing eviction in Manhattan and Brooklyn are finding it tough sledding as there are no lawyers left to represent them as public defender shortage is leaving these tenants to represent themselves in housing court.
The Legal Aid Society is short by 230 cases between Brooklyn and Manhattan and Legal Services NYC cannot take a single case more in Brooklyn.
These legal aid firms are also turning down cases in Queens and The Bronx as more than 220,000 eviction cases are already jamming up the system.
