Queens Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz and state senator Brad Hoylman have penned an interesting op ed floating their idea of having New York pay the immigration court legal fees. It is their feeling that it is the least we can do to make up for a “byzantine system” among other things.
They also feel it may alleviate the backlog the IC is currently facing in some way. The dup do not present how it will be funded or put forth a number that it will add to this budgetary bucket. Some hard data on numbers for such an expense would be helpful in determining feasibility.
